How to decide your rap name

Your rap name is your brand that is going to follow you your entire career and its super important. Alot of people will get your first impression from your name. I've noticed that alot of hip hop artists these days have some crazy rap names, though some of them are interesting as well but mostly they are poorly crafted.

Here are my 6 tips that will help you improve your rap name or start off with a good foundation

• Know who you are?
  

  So my first tip would be to start with something that aligns with who you are as a person, don't go out and name yourself randomly, its kind of wierd to have your name as thug boy when you are rapping about party music. You got me, right ?

• Search the internet
  

  One of the most common problems that artists have is having a generic name like Laurant or may be Young Thug. So any name that is very common and you add something like young or dope etc , all these names have alot of competition on search engines, so if you have a very generic name and people search about you, they may end up finding someone else.
  So if you don't want yourself to be conflicting or competing with somemone more popular that you, make sure to search the internet before finalizing your name and come up with something that don't have much competition as it will make it easier for you to manage your brand image.

• Use a Name Generator
  

  When starting out, you might feel blank with no ideas at all. I would highly recommend to use a rap name generator, these online name generators may not help you get your name finalized but still they are really good to kickstart your brainstorming.

• Scalable
  

  Always have a rap name that is broad enough to fit to a different style. Even if you are into party music today, may be you are doing street music a few years later, right?
  Make sure to decide a name that will give you potential to expand, obviously it should connect with your style and symbolizes you but don't narrow down too much.

• Don't be Offensive
  

  Even if you are a hardcore rapper, and being very bold with your verses, but still you should never have anything offensive in your name. Eg: you should not have anything like titty, killer, murder, guns in your name. Apart from ethics, these things really don't go well from a mamrketing point of view as well because once you grow up as an artist and all these big companies want to work with you, they might not feel comfortable printing Hola Titties on thier company event broucher.

• Check for domain availablity
  

  This one is not a must have, but still if yourname.com is available to register, its always a plus point. Looking for domains before going public with your name is something I always suggest by students.
